State machine diagram maker

Decide which objects have a complex enough life cycle that they require a diagram. 

List every distinct mode the object can inhabit. Each state represents a period where the object is waiting for an event or performing an action.

Every state machine diagram needs a starting point and an optional exit point. Use a solid black circle to mark the initial state and a bullseye symbol to indicate the final state where the process concludes.  

Draw arrows between states to show how the object moves from one state to another. Each arrow drawn represents a change in state triggered by an external or internal event. 

Label the transition arrows using proper state machine diagram symbols and notation. Use triggers to identify what causes the change, guards to show conditions that must be met, and actions to describe what happens during the transition.

Check the logic and review that each state has a path to the final state or a path back to the start, confirming that there are no “dead ends.”
