Frequently asked questions

Learn more about intelligent diagramming.

What is intelligent diagramming?

Intelligent diagramming is a modern approach to communicating complex information using visuals. Whereas the output of traditional diagramming is a static visual drawn manually, the output of intelligent diagramming is a dynamic visual generated using a combination of AI, data, and automation. Not only does intelligent diagramming enable teams to save time and effort on documenting systems, processes, and organizational structures, but it also allows them to make sense of complex data in order to make better decisions faster.

How can I use AI to generate and refine diagrams in Lucid?

From the Lucid AI panel in Lucidchart, you can type a detailed description of the diagram you want to create or attach a file that provides additional context. Once the AI-generated diagram appears on your Lucid canvas, you can refine the diagram manually or by describing changes you’d like Lucid AI to make.

What data sources are supported for auto-visualization in Lucid?

In Lucidchart, org charts can be populated automatically using employee data from Google Sheets, Excel, CSV files, and an integration with BambooHR. Additionally, account maps can be generated automatically by importing sales contacts from Salesforce. Using Lucidchart’s UML sequence markup editor, users can generate UML sequence diagrams much faster than creating them by hand. Users can also automate entity relationship diagrams (ERDs) with SQL imports. Lucid’s Cloud Accelerator enables cloud teams to import data from AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud to automatically generate up-to-date infrastructure diagrams.

Does Lucid use customer data to train AI models / LLMs?

No. Using Lucid’s AI capabilities, which are powered by the Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, doesn’t result in customer data being used to train any generative AI models available to third parties. Lucid stores anonymized and redacted prompts and responses for its own internal error handling and analysis, ensuring there is no direct connection to individual Lucid users or documents. Both Lucid and Microsoft adhere to stringent policies that segregate user data from model training processes, ensuring customer data remains a standalone entity used solely for its intended purpose and maintaining a high standard of user privacy and data confidentiality.

How do I use Lucid AI to create swimlanes in my diagram?

From the Lucid AI panel in Lucidchart, you can enter a text prompt or attach a file to generate a diagram automatically using AI. If your prompt or file mentions swimlanes—or teams, roles, and systems that imply swimlanes—Lucid AI will add them for you.

What is the difference between Lucidchart and Lucidspark?

Lucidspark is a virtual whiteboard that we recommend for brainstorming, meeting facilitation, strategic planning, project planning, user research, user journey mapping, and similar use cases. Lucidchart is an intelligent diagramming application that we recommend for visualizing processes, data flows, networks, technical systems, cloud architecture, and other complex systems.

What is the Lucid Suite?

The Lucid Visual Collaboration Suite (or Lucid Suite) is Lucid Software’s enterprise offering. The Lucid Suite combines Lucidchart for intelligent diagramming and Lucidspark for virtual whiteboarding. Together, these individually powerful yet highly connected solutions provide the most complete platform for work acceleration and visual collaboration.
