At Lucid, we’ve worked AI thoughtfully into our solutions so that it can enhance what Lucid already does well, improving your collaboration and workflows and leaving room for your team’s expertise to shine. (In other words, we don’t have AI for the sake of having AI.)

In this blog post, we’ve rounded up the AI features available in Lucid, so you can easily find what you need and start implementing AI into your workflow in a way that works for you.

Ready to explore AI in Lucid?

Lucid AI

Lucid AI is a unified interface—available within both Lucidchart and Lucidspark—with a conversational AI assistant that acts as a collaborator on the canvas with you. Talk to Lucid AI as you would a coworker: You can even use voice-to-text and upload files or videos to a prompt to save time and offer more information. Lucid AI builds on our intelligent work acceleration platform to empower teams to create, collaborate, and uncover insights, all in an effort to maximize efficiency and output.

So what exactly can you use Lucid AI to do?

Generate and iterate on diagrams

Up first is generating and iterating on a diagram with AI. This feature allows you to auto-generate different types of diagrams just by typing a prompt, including:

  • Flowcharts (with or without swimlanes)

  • Mind maps

  • Entity relationship diagrams (ERDs)

  • AWS, Azure, and GCP architecture diagrams

  • Network diagrams

  • BPMN conversation diagrams

  • BPMN choreography diagrams

  • UML sequence diagrams

  • UML class diagrams

If your original prompt doesn’t produce quite what you need, you can have Lucid AI enhance your prompt, or you can attach files that provide more context for your prompt. You can also edit your diagram with AI by typing what you’d like to change about the generated diagram.

Instead of manually adding conditional formatting rules to your diagram, you can use AI to add rules. Just describe what formatting you want for certain conditions, and Lucid AI will take care of the rest. If you need to adjust AI-generated rules later, navigate to the conditional formatting panel.

If you’ve imported a dataset from Excel, Google Sheets, or a CSV into Lucidchart, you can use AI to recommend field mappings. Field mapping matches columns in your dataset to Lucid fields such as title, description, priority, start date, and more. (You can also use this feature in Lucidspark if you’re using the Lucid Cards for Google Sheets integrations or if you’re syncing data fields for Timelines.)

Additionally, you can auto-generate a diagram outline that includes an overview of the diagram, plus the steps listed in the diagram.

Note: All AI-generated diagrams will automatically have assisted layout features applied, which means you’ll be able to move shapes into drop zones, easily adjust spacing, and quickly swap shapes.

Generate board

With generate board, Lucid AI will set up the canvas for you based on a prompt. For example, you can tell Lucid AI that you’re setting up a brainstorming session or retrospective, and it will populate the board with corresponding Frames, sticky notes, and text blocks.

Generate ideas

Auto-generate ideas to kick off an ideation session. Simply type in a prompt—such as “I need some ideas for my marketing campaign”—and ideas will populate on sticky notes in seconds. This feature can help get a brainstorming session started quickly and spark other ideas.

Sort ideas

Once you have ideas on your canvas—whether you added them or AI did—you can then have Lucid AI sort those ideas into common themes. Simply select the sticky notes you want to sort, and click Lucid AI > Sort ideas from the pop-up context menu.

Summarize content

Summarize diagrams, ideas, or any other content on your board with Lucid AI. You can leave the summary on the board for collaborators to review asynchronously, or share that summary in other documentation.

Answer questions about Lucid and your document

Lucid AI also helps you accomplish your work by providing guidance. If the assistant can’t complete a request, it will share and summarize relevant articles from the Lucid help center for your review. It will also answer questions about Lucid’s products and direct you to relevant additional resources. Finally, it will answer questions about your document. For example, if a board is shared with you to review, and it’s extensive, you can ask Lucid AI for a summary of the content and which parts to review first.

Process Agent

The Process Agent acts as a proactive collaborator on the Lucid canvas, essentially an AI coworker or consultant that helps you develop high-integrity documentation. Before you even touch the Lucid canvas, the Process Agent will ask clarifying questions to define the scope of what you’re trying to create, ensuring your documentation doesn't just look professional but that it’s accurate to the business logic you want to capture.

MCP server

Lucid’s MCP server acts as a bridge between your large language models (LLMs) and Lucid, bringing visual power to your existing AI ecosystem. If you’re in the middle of a deep-dive chat with an LLM and realize, “I need to see this as a process map” or “I need to find that architectural diagram we built last week,” you can do that without leaving the LLM. The MCP lets you search your existing Lucid library or kick off a brand-new board without ever breaking your flow.

AI integrations

Along with AI features, Lucid also has AI-focused integrations, including:

  • AI Custom GPT: Type what you want to visualize in ChatGPT to auto-generate a diagram that you can edit in Lucidchart.

  • Slack: Using Lucid’s AI, summarize Lucid documents right in Slack.

  • Microsoft Teams: Share Lucid links with auto-generated summaries right in Teams.

  • Microsoft Copilot: Retrieve and search for Lucid documents within Copilot.

  • Microsoft Graph: Surface Lucid documents in Microsoft 365, plus set user permissions.

  • AI Prompt Flow: Visualize, experiment with, and track large language model prompts and responses as a flowchart in Lucidchart.
